CASEing Layered Die Cuts

When CASEing, this often copies colour combos and/or layouts, but today let’s get “on the case” of something that’s off the creative beaten path—layering die cuts!

The Gone Fishing catalogue sample has given dimension using this technique—so let’s do the same to make the Happy Birthday sentiment pop!

The key is stacking multiple die cuts and adhering them with your choice of adhesive. With Multipurpose Liquid Glue, you’ll find it easiest to control. Also, liquid adhesive allows you to move the pieces around a bit if you don’t have them exactly lined up.

Another technique? Use Masking Paper for your ink blending. Cut the Masking Paper sheet to 4″ x 5-1/4″ (10.2 x 13.3 cm) and remove the backing off one half. Then, just line up the edge that still has backing over the card front, allowing you to check the spacing around the edges to ensure it’s all even. Adhere the other side and remove the backing off the other half. As a last step, ink-blend the edges and remove the Masking Paper.

Ta dah!
